"The Princess Frog"
Once upon a time, there was a glorious king who had three daughters. The youngest was by far the most beautiful. The king thought she was the best and deserved the best. He had his royal treasurers make a golden ball, which she loved to play with.
One day, when she was playing with her golden ball, she accidentally dropped it into the water. She cried for her lost ball. She said, “Father would be most displeased if he found out that I have lost this precious gold!” A frog surfaced in the water.
He asked, “Why are you crying?”
“I have lost something precious to me and I can not get it back.” She responded.
“I can get it for you.”
“You can? What do you want in return?” The princess asked.
“I am a prince. I wish to have a wonderful meal at your castle and sit by you. I also ask for a warm place to sleep.”
The princess agreed. The frog then dove under water and got the golden ball. The princess was grateful and ran back to the castle. Later that night there was a knock at the door. The king opened it and a frog was sitting on the ground.
“Well hello there little one, what brings you here?” the king greeted.
“I have retrieved your daughters golden ball from the bottom of the pond and she agreed for supper and a place to sleep in return.” The frog responded.
So the king invited him in. When the princess sat down for supper she was horrified at the frog because she thought that he would not remember and she disliked frogs. Unfortunately a promise is a promise and he ate with her. The meal was so good and filling to the frog that he began to sleep at the table. The king ordered his daughter to bring the frog upstairs to her room to sleep. She picked him up in a way where she could hardly touch him at all and put him in the corner of her room.
“I am cold please let me sleep in your bed.” The princess was furious and did not like him, so she picked him up and threw him at the wall. The princess noticed glittery stuff on her hands. She tried to shake it off but it only spread. Soon she was covered and POOF! She turned into a frog.
The frog said, “Now wait a minute, this isn’t how the story is supposed to go! I was the one that was supposed to change. Uh oh, I think the witch in this story messed up. Ever since that Hansel and Gretel incident she’s been spooked out. I don’t think that we can continue the story in the way of actual story telling so this is going to sound different.”
“I don’t want to be a frog!” said the princess. “What am I supposed to do?”
“I’m not sure, this is my first time on a messed up story too.”
Well, the two frogs left the castle and continued life together for a few years. The king was sad and thought that the princess died or ran away. The kingdom was sad also. Once, when the two frogs came out of the pond, they saw a note it read,
Dear Froggies,
I would like to apologize for messing up the story. To make it up to you drink this potion and when you kiss, you will both be human.
Not always so sincere,
Hazel
The princess frog said, “Well, lets have this kiss be our marriage kiss, we’ve known each other for a long time now and I think we’re ready. I’ve gained a new idea of animals and respect them and you more.” The next morning, the raccoon priest said the words they were longing for during the wedding, “I now pronounce you husband and toad. You may now kiss the bride.” As soon as they kissed with their eyes closed they could feel themselves changing. When the feeling stopped, the princess slowly opened her eyes to savor the moment of seeing his true form.
As she was doing so, the prince asked, “Did I forget to tell you that the spell was cast upon me eighty-five years ago?”
